Clinics Offer Patients Efficient After-Hours Orthopedic Care as ER Wait Times Grow

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 8, 2010) – OrthoCarolina, the region’s leading orthopedic practice, today announced it has added orthopedic urgent care services to its Matthews office.
“Convenience is key when you have an urgent orthopedic need,” said Dr. Dan Murrey, CEO of OrthoCarolina and spine specialist. “Whether you live north or south of the city or near uptown Charlotte, OrthoCarolina has you covered for after-hours care with the new services in Matthews and University and also our Randolph Road orthopedic urgent care.”
The orthopedic urgent care services, the region’s only after-hours access to orthopedic experts, are part of an ongoing expansion aiming to conveniently serve OrthoCarolina patients across the Charlotte region. Focused solely on walk-in patients, each orthopedic urgent care is staffed by a team of experts including board-certified orthopedic surgeons, licensed orthopedic physician assistants and a staff specially trained in orthopedic treatment.
“The average wait time in emergency rooms in 2008 was over four hours according to a recent study of hospitals nationwide,” said Dr. Murrey. “Obviously life and death cases like heart attacks and accident victims are first priority in an ER, which means if you have an urgent orthopedic need you could be waiting much longer than four hours, and that’s just too long. Our goal in expanding our orthopedic urgent care facilities is to offer patients in the Charlotte area the economical and time-efficient care they need when seeking urgent help for an orthopedic issue.”
The orthopedic specialists at the orthopedic urgent care treat a number of conditions, including acute pain, such as sudden neck or back pain; carpal tunnel hand pain; sports-related injuries or cumulative conditions, such as tennis elbow; injuries resulting from an accident, such as strains, sprains, fractures and minor dislocations; post-operative difficulties; painful joint swelling from tendonitis, bursitis or arthritis and injuries that do not require stitches.
All three orthopedic urgent care locations are open seven days a week and see patients from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends.
The Matthews orthopedic urgent care is located at 710 Park Center Drive. A new University office is set to open June 22 and is located at 9848 N. Tryon St. Patients in the uptown area with urgent orthopedic needs also can visit a convenient orthopedic urgent care located at 2001 Randolph Rd.
